Heavy rains cause flooding and destroy roads in Mont-Tremblant

Heavy rain on Tuesday night damaged roads and caused floods in Mont-Tremblant. According to news reports, 50 to 80 mm of rain fell in the region. The storm destroyed parts of Montee Duplessis and Chemin Ryan, both roads used for the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant courses.

Last month we reported that the popular Ironman events in Mont-Tremblant would not be happening this year and that athletes would not be able to defer their entries to 2022 as the contract between Ironman and the village of Mont-Tremblant had not been renewed as of yet.

In addition to the damage to the roads, hotels in the village were also hit hard by the floods.

According to local radio station Cime the storm damage to roads and property around the region was extensive, while Journal de Quebec reported the municipality of Lac-Superieur, which is just outside of Mont-Tremblant, set up a crisis unit for what it described as a “historic event,” but did say that by 8:30 AM on Wednesday morning the situation was under control. It reported that 10 roads were blocked because they had collapsed or flooded. As far as we can tell there have not been any reports of injuries due to the storms.
