Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches was racing, everyone else was surviving today at Canada’s toughest triathlon, the CanadaMan/Woman Extreme Triathlon in Lac Megantic, Quebec. Even being stopped by a train for 12 minutes didn’t stop him from leading the entire way.

The Quebec athlete was unstoppable, leading the way out of the water in 47:57, with Benoit Drouin leading a group of four that included Ultraman world champion Jordan Bryden, Nick Cosman and Brazil’s Thiago Menuci. Once out on the bike Jolicoeur Desroches continued to make the event a one man show, biking an incredible 5:05:24 split. He was so far ahead that even getting stopped by the train wasn’t enough to allow the rest of the athletes to catch up. Then, on the bike, Jolicoeur Desroches ran a blazing 3:42:57 marathon to come across the line in 9:40:01. The previous record? Just under 11 hours!

We’re still waiting for the rest of the field to get to the Observatory at the top of Mont Megantic – we’ll have more updates through the rest of the day!
