Today the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) announced its new T100 Triathlon World Tour, with eight races and 40 contracted athletes. Included among that group is Ironman world champion Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR), pictured above taking the win in Kona last October. At today’s press conference announcing the event, Charles-Barclay said that she won’t be in Nice, France in September trying to defend her title.

“I am going to put everything into the T100 series,” the 30-year-old said. “You won’t see me racing in Nice.”
Referring to Ironman’s decision to alternate the world championship between Nice and Kona every year, Charles-Barclay said “defending my title would be in Kona.”
Charles-Barclay agrees with many others who feel that there’s never been a better time to be a pro triathlete.
“It feels like triathlon has finally arrived,” she said. “It feels like a boom period for the sport.”
