As the age-group women were checking in their bikes this afternoon, members of the media and the bike industry were on hand to count their bikes and the equipment on them. Triathlon Magazine was on hand to help collect the data from the transition zone in Nice and we have the numbers from today’s count.
Ironman World Championship Nice by the numbers
As it was last year for the women’s world championship in Kona, Cervelo leads the way on the bike count, but Trek and Canyon weren’t far behind. Here are a few other notes of interest:
- Shimano rules the roost – like, really rules the roost – on the drivetrain front
- 155 of the bikes used regular road handlebars and didn’t feature any aerobars, a tribute to the hilly course here in Nice
- The two leading brands on the power meter front are both pedal-based systems, Garmin and Assioma
- ISM is the clear leader on the saddle front.
We’ll have more thoughts on the various equipment choices after the race, for now, here’s the data for you to peruse!
