It hardly comes as a surprise that all the first-place votes went her way. Germany’s Laura Philipp was the undisputed pick by the media (Triathlon Magazine is one of the four outlets that vote on the award each month) and fans as September’s Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) Athlete of the Month thanks to her stunning win in Nice.

Philipp was the unanimous pick over Marten Van Riel (BEL) and Taylor Knibb (USA), the winners of T100 Ibiza, along with Mika Noodt, who won Ironman 70.3 Zell am See and took third in Ibiza.

After her win in Nice, Philipp took a pass on the race in Ibiza (which was six days later), but attended the event on the Spanish island.

“I’ll be back in training soon, because Las Vegas is just around the corner and I’m looking forward to race the last two T100 races in Las Vegas and then Dubai,” she said.

Philipp currently sits in ninth place in the T100 series after a third-place finish at T100 San Francisco and fourth at T100 London.

Triathlon Magazine, Global Triathlon Network (GTN), Tri-Mag.de and Triathlete make up the panel of triathlon media who voted on their 1, 2, 3 from a four-athlete shortlist, awarding 3 points for #1, 2 pts for #2 and 1 pt for #3. Votes were also counted from online triathlon fans who had their say via the T100 social handles. Philipp received 15 points with Van Riel securing 9 points to take second place.
