Cameron Wurf, the former bike course record-holder at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, has been juggling a pro cycling and triathlon career for the last few years, managing to help his Ineos Grenadiers cycling team to some big wins, all while competing as one of the world’s best triathletes. Last weekend the Australian finished seventh in Kona (pictured above), an impressive performance for the 41-year-old, running a 2:50 marathon to finish in 7:51:26.
Ironman champion and pro cyclist Cam Wurf: not your average pro triathlete
Just over a week after his race on the Big Island, Wurf competed at the New York City Marathon, running 2:36:22.

One would imagine that this will be the final marathon of the year for Wurf, who returned home for third-place finish at Ironman 70.3 Tasmania, then took third at Ironman South Africa, 16th at Ironman 70.3 Les Sables D’Olonne, third at Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz and rounded out his triathlon season with his top-10 finish in Kona.
All that is on top of over 5,000 km of racing for Ineos Grenadiers in 33 days of racing as a domestique that included five multi-day tour events and a number of one-day classics, including Flèche Wallone and the Amstel Gold Race.
All of which would seemingly allow the Australian a well-deserved break, but don’t be surprised if we see Wurf on another start line again this year. Last year he competed at Ironman Florida (seventh) and Ironman Cozumel (DNF) after racing at the Ironman World Championship Nice (he finished 14th there).
