Featured on our July cover, Tamara Jewett proved that her hard work in the water and on the bike is paying off as she held off some of the country’s premier long-distance athletes to take the Canadian Cross Training Club Chase Triathlon. The event began with a 2 km swim, followed by a 54 km bike on a hilly course in Caledon, Ont., and wrapped up with a 15 km run on a gravel trail. Jewett was sent off with a 17-minute head start over the men’s field that included Jackson Laundry, Cody Beals, Taylor Reid, Michael Staer Nathan and Andrew Bolton.
Reid had the days fastest swim, but Laundry and Beals weren’t far behind. They only made up about two minutes on Jewett, though, who posted a personal-best 28 minutes for the 2 km effort. Out on the bike it was Laundry who posted the fastest split, but he was still a few seconds behind Jewett as they headed out onto the run.
A former national-team runner, Jewett’s swimming and cycling improvements don’t seem to have slowed her running talents up much – she blasted through the day’s fastest run split to easily hold off Laundry to take the “Chase” title, with Beals rounding out the podium.
