The Thursday morning before the Ironman World Championship has always been a busy and entertaining day. It begins with the annual Underpants Run, a spectacle like no other in the sport. Here’s a look at photos from last year’s race, along with a look back at our coverage over the years:
It all started as a way for Canadian Roch Frey and his partner Paul Huddle to get their athletes to relax a couple of days before the Ironman Championship – it’s grown to become a fundraising event that is a mainstay during the week of activities at the Ironman World Championship.
The Underpants Run routinely attracts thousands of participants and even more spectators who watch as athletes, their families, fans and friends enjoy a couple of kilometres of running, lots of calisthenics and stretching, and even more fun a couple of days before the world’s biggest long-distance triathlon.
