We reported on the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) announcement during the week leading up to the Ironman World Championship in Nice that it would be hosting a race in the French Riviera next year. We reported that the rumour mill had the event heading to Frejus, and it turns out we were right – today the organization “confirmed that the idyllic port towns of Frejus and St Raphael will be the hub for the new French Riviera T100 Triathlon when the world’s best triathletes come to the Côte d’Azur on 16-18 May next year.”
The racing will include a 100 km distance triathlon (2 km swim, 80 km bike and 18 km run) for both pros and age group racers, along with super sprint and off-road triathlons, cycle Sportif, open water swim, 5 km fun run, youth events and a three-day outdoor expo.
“We’re excited to share further details on the French Riviera T100 Triathlon weekend,” said PTO CEO Sam Renouf. “Nestled between Cannes and St Tropez, Fréjus and St Raphaël look out on the Côte d’Azur and will absolutely deliver against our strategy of taking the T100 Triathlon World Tour to iconic locations that present a stunning backdrop for fans watching at home on TV, but also an enviable setting for participants to come and enjoy. Being able to offer a broad range of ancillary events should make for a very special weekend. Following the success of Paris 2024, with multiple medals won, France is a powerhouse in the sport so we are thrilled to be bringing the T100 to the country for the first time.”
The region is no stranger to triathletes and also offers perfect weather for the event, according to local officials.
“The destination of Esterel Côte d’azur has hosted the internships of the French triathlon team since 1990,” said Fabien Roux, the elected sports delegate of Fréjus – St Raphaël. “Between sea and mountains and 300 days of sunshine per year, this place is truly a land of endurance sports. It’s fabulous that the T100 arrives in France in this magical and unique place in the world.”
The race joins the other confirmed 2025 T100 Triathlon World Tour events including: Singapore (12-13 April), San Francisco (31 May-1 June), London (2-3 August), Ibiza (27-28 September), Las Vegas (25-26 October) and Dubai (November).”
