Do North Events, the group that organized the PTO Canadian Open in Edmonton, has received approval to put on a T100 World Triathlon Tour race in Vancouver next year. The Vancouver Park Board received a report from staff for its November 4 meeting, which recommended:
THAT the Vancouver Park Board approve an application from Professional Triathletes
Organization and Do North Events to host the T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival special
event at Jericho Beach Park and Locarno Beach Park over three days on Friday, June 13,
Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, 2025, with all arrangements to the satisfaction of
the General Manager of the Park Board.
According to the report, the event “positioned as the ‘F1 of Fitness,'” will include both men’s and women’s T100 professional races, an age-group 100 km event, open water swim races, youth and schools programs that will be “delivered in partnership with Triathlon Canada and Triathlon BC,” along with a “local mass participation run” – either a 5 km “themed” run or a 10 km “serious” run “pending local feedback and traffic impact.” There will also be an expo and an “Endurance Sport Business Conference.”
According to the report, in the future, the event will also “grow to be recognized as the World Triathlon America’s T100 Championships on a rotating 3-year basis,” and “the expected participation in 2025 is 10,000 to 12,000.”
After the staff report at the board meeting, a number of local residents spoke up with concerns about the event, and the commissioners also entrusted Park staff to work with the race organizers to ensure the event would have minimal impact on the community and the parks.
In the end the Board voted six to one to approve the race. (You can watch a replay of the board meeting here.)
With today’s announcement of a T100 race in Frejus and St Raphael, the Canadian race would become an eighth race in the 2025 T100 Triathlon World Tour events including: Singapore (12-13 April), French Riviera (16-18 May), San Francisco (31 May-1 June), London (2-3 August), Ibiza (27-28 September), Las Vegas (25-26 October) and Dubai (November).”
